The most expensive tree mistakes happen at planting, not pruning. A tree planted too close to the house, under a power line, or where its mature roots will heave the foundation becomes a removal in twenty years — no matter how well it’s cared for.
Match the mature size to the space, above and below ground. Know how tall and wide it gets, and how aggressive its roots are, before you dig. Big shade trees belong away from foundations, lines, and septic.
In the Portland climate, choose species that handle wet winters and increasingly dry summers, and favor diversity — a street of one species is one pest away from a clear-cut. We’re happy to walk your yard and suggest the right tree for each spot.
Plant it right, too: the root flare at grade (not buried), a wide saucer-shaped hole, and mulch that doesn’t touch the trunk. Get those right and the tree mostly raises itself.
